Isabella Kupe, Counseling Intern
Ages Seen: 6-12
Treatment Focus: Play Therapy, ADHD, Anxiety, Autism
Nice to meet you, I’m Izzy! I’m somebody who wants to create a space where children come to be understood, no matter how they choose to express their thoughts and feelings. This area is a place where expressions, or lack thereof, are seen and used to create a happy, helpful environment for any child who enters, and to give them the tools to create a happier reality for themselves. I believe in a collaborative practice where the individual is in the driver’s seat, and we work together to reach their desired destination.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Cognitive Science and Creative Writing at Michigan State University, and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Social Work at the same school. My interest lies in working with Neurodivergent children and African American children, specifically African American girls. My interest in working with children has led me to serve as a counselor at various summer camps and to intern at Peckham Inc, where I worked with court-involved youth experiencing behavioral and cognitive struggles. The specialties I’m going to focus on are ADHD, Anxiety, and Autism.
Play Therapy is my clinical approach, as it is a patient-centered practice. Play is the language of children, so what better way to communicate with a child than through the language they are most comfortable speaking? Not only does the practice play on the child’s strengths, but it also empowers them to teach and display their inner experiences, trusting that they will be heard. When they’re heard, they’ll be able to be assisted the best they can by their partner.
I hope that when you leave me, you feel validated and ready to engage healthily with yourself and the world around you. Whatever is going on, I want to listen and do the best I can to support you on your terms. This is your journey, and I’m more than happy to stand beside you and work together.
