My name is Nathan Elston, and I am a graduate student in the counseling program at Central Michigan University (CMU). Before CMU I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Alma College, where I also competed as a student-athlete, an experience that shaped my belief in the connection between personal discipline, resilience, and growth.

Prior to joining Creekside, I gained hands-on experience as a Behavior Technician with Centria Autism, where I implemented Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to support individuals on the autism spectrum in developing meaningful skills and reducing barriers to daily functioning. I also served as a College and Career Advisor through AmeriCorps/AdviseMI, working directly within school settings to connect high school students with the college access resources and plans they need to succeed, an experience that deepened my commitment to supporting young people at pivotal life transitions.

My counseling philosophy is rooted in building genuine, supportive relationships where clients feel truly heard and encouraged. I take a strengths-based approach, focusing on helping individuals develop practical coping skills, confidence, and a sense of direction as they navigate life’s challenges. I have a particular passion for working with children, adolescents, and young adults, and I believe counseling plays a powerful role in helping people better understand themselves, manage stress and anxiety, and make thoughtful decisions about their future. I view the counseling relationship as a collaborative one where growth is built on trust, consistency, and a deep recognition of each person’s unique strengths.

I am excited to bring this background in behavioral support, school engagement, and mental health to my internship at Creekside, where I look forward to growing as a clinician and serving the community.
